How do I request a quote?
Your route to booking runs through a few simple steps:
- Price calculator (no obligation, no availability check) - optional, for a first price indication.
- Fill in and submit the enquiry form. No hire agreement and no costs at this stage.
- We get back to you within 24 hours with a concrete quote, including actual vehicle availability.
- Confirm by email. Happy with everything? Just confirm by email - we'll re-check availability and reserve your vehicle.
- Reservation confirmation by email, with a link to a secure payment page for your deposit.
Note: During peak season (November to March) we recommend booking around 6 months ahead. The standard hire period is 10 days; shorter periods are possible subject to availability. Changes after booking confirmation also depend on availability and are handled by email with our team.
How do deposits and cancellations work?
- Deposit: NZ$300, due within 3 days of booking, non-refundable.
- Balance: the full remaining amount is due 30 days before your first hire day. We send an automatic payment reminder.
- Payment methods: bank transfer, EFTPOS, VISA/Mastercard. We don’t accept cash payments.
Cancellation fees at Wendekreisen
Our cancellation terms are staggered according to how far ahead of vehicle pick-up you cancel:

What driving licence do I need in New Zealand?
- Minimum age 21 (no exceptions), a valid licence held for at least 12 months, and vehicles up to 3.5 t gross weight.
- Your licence must be shown at pick-up.
- If your licence isn't issued in English, you'll need an accurate English translation. An International Driving Permit is sufficient for this. Alternatively, we accept translations from a translation service approved by the NZ Transport Agency, or from the embassy, consulate or high commission of the country that issued your licence.
How do pick-up and drop-off work?
We're here for you at two locations, both close to the airport:
- Auckland: Unit 6, 197 Montgomerie Rd, Mangere/Airport Oaks - 10 minutes from the airport.
- Christchurch: 240 Roydvale Ave, Burnside - 5 minutes from the airport.
One-way hires are no problem at all and come at no extra cost.
- Our opening hours: Mon to Sat, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Sun/public holidays from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm.
Pick-up and return are generally possible between 6:30 am and 8:00 pm; outside business hours subject to availability and for a fee.
- Free airport transfer: once you've collected your luggage and cleared customs, call Wendekreisen on the relevant number (Auckland Int'l/Domestic: +64 9 869-7790, option 2; Christchurch: option 3) and head to the signposted pick-up point. Taxi or shuttle costs from the city aren't reimbursed.
- On return, please: refill the tank as per the handover protocol; return the vehicle reasonably clean inside and out; empty the grey/waste water tank and toilet cassette; and return the LPG bottle full. Late returns and non-compliance incur additional fees (security deposit clause).
- One-way hire Auckland ↔ Christchurch: free in both directions.
What are Road User Charges (RUC)?
In New Zealand, diesel vehicles must pay a distance-based Road User Charge (RUC). Many operators bill this separately - with Wendekreisen, the RUC is already included in your hire price, along with unlimited kilometres, additional drivers, credit card fees, breakdown assistance and GST (15%).
Not included in the hire price, and payable separately, are New Zealand's three toll roads (Northern Gateway Toll Road near Auckland, Tauranga Eastern Link, and Takitimu Drive) - tolls must be paid by the driver online within 5 days of use.
What else is included in the hire price?
Quite a lot, actually: unlimited kilometres, additional drivers, credit card fees, breakdown assistance, a complete bedding set for 2 (pillows, duvet, sheets, towels and tea towels), an electric heater (240V), the full kitchen and cooking kit, camping table and chairs, the airport transfer, and GST (15%). And as mentioned: one-way hire between Auckland and Christchurch is free for you.
